D.J. iMiX

Recognized around the world as the birth place of Techno, metro Detroit has proven to be fertile ground for today’s hottest DJ’s. DJ iMix, a.k.a. Chris French, much like Techno was actually born in a Detroit suburb.

Ypsilanti, best known as the home of Eastern Michigan University, along with neighboring Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan was the perfect incubator for a progressive dance sub-culture. It’s here that you can pinpoint the birth of Techno in 1987 with the creation of “Big Fun” by Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, and Derrick May along with Paris Grey forever to be immortalized as “Inner City”.

“The best thing for any musician is a diverse music culture”, DJ iMix recalls, “I have had to play every style of music known to bars and nightclubs”. Now iMix has taken the experiences that started in 1987 and emulsified them into a bold and boundless experience that would be expected from a Leo, his birth sign. “I love music and I love to spin and I love to entertain. I have never wanted to be labelled as a House DJ, Rock DJ, Hip-Hop DJ, Techno DJ, or a Trance DJ. The truth is I’m all of those and more.” I enjoy EVERYTHING from John Williams to Billy Joel, Grand Master Flash to Global DeeJays, and everything in between. In 1987 I loved Miami Bass. Luke, Poison Clan, MC ADE, and Magic Mike are the artists of my DJ infancy. I want my performance music to have energy and depth. I want the music I play, not just to encourage you, but force you uncontrollably to move.”

DJ iMix masterfully weaves a tapestry of “All things Dance” sometimes seamlessly, sometimes brash and sometimes ornamented with the trimmings offered by the most experienced turn-tableists imposing extreme as well as subtle shifts in the club goers musical conscience. “If you know exactly what you’re going to play for your set, you are cheating yourself and more importantly your audience of the experience of a live performance. You can just sell mix CD’s from your basement for all that’s worth.”

Today you will find DJ iMix hard at work in his studio producing tracks, re-mixing as well as spinning live in the US and abroad. “My music and remixes are designed to make you move.”
